Use Alrighty with AI assistants

Alrighty runs an MCP server on your Mac, so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or a model you run yourself can list, search and read your mail. It’s read-only: an assistant can’t send, move or delete anything.

Turn it onOnce

  1. In Alrighty, open Settings → General → AI assistants and choose Turn on.
  2. Copy the setup for your assistant: it comes with your token filled in.
  3. Keep Alrighty open. The server runs while the app does.

The server listens on http://127.0.0.1:47632/mcp and only answers requests that carry your token as Authorization: Bearer <token>.

Connect your assistantPick yours

Claude Code

Run in a terminal. --scope user makes it available in every project.

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user alrighty http://127.0.0.1:47632/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"

Codex

Add to ~/.codex/config.toml.

[mcp_servers.alrighty]
url = "http://127.0.0.1:47632/mcp"
http_headers = { Authorization = "Bearer <token>" }

Cursor, LM Studio and other mcp.json clients

Merge into the client's mcp.json.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "alrighty": {
      "url": "http://127.0.0.1:47632/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <token>" }
    }
  }
}

Clients that only run local commands (stdio)

Claude Desktop, for example: bridge to the server with mcp-remote (needs Node.js).

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "alrighty": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "http://127.0.0.1:47632/mcp", "--header", "Authorization: Bearer <token>"]
    }
  }
}

ChatGPT’s apps connect to MCP servers from OpenAI’s cloud, which can’t reach a server on your computer. Use Codex, or another client that runs locally.

What it can doRead, and nothing else

list_accountsThe connected accounts, with their ids
list_inboxThe newest Inbox messages across every account (or one); optionally unread only
list_mailboxThe same for Sent, Drafts, Archive, Junk or Trash
list_foldersAn account's folders and labels
list_folderThe newest messages in one folder
search_mailKeyword and meaning search, with "phrases" and from:, to:, subject: filters
get_messageOne message in full, its body as plain text (doesn't mark it read)
get_threadEvery message in a conversation, oldest first
unread_countUnread messages across every Inbox

Try: “What did I get from my bank this week?” or “Summarize the unread mail in my inbox.”

PrivacyWhat to know

  • Only programs on this computer can connect, and only with the token. Web pages are refused, even ones open in your browser.
  • What an assistant reads goes to whoever runs its model: Anthropic for Claude Code, OpenAI for Codex, nobody for a local model.
  • Email is written by other people, and a message can contain instructions aimed at an assistant. Alrighty tells assistants to treat mail as information, and gives them no way to act on it.
  • If the token gets out, choose New token in Settings and set your assistants up again.
