Connect iCloudWith an app-specific password
Apple doesn’t let other mail apps sign in with your Apple ID, so iCloud uses an app-specific password: a password for Alrighty alone, which you can revoke at any time without changing your Apple ID password.
- Go to account.apple.com and sign in. Two-factor authentication needs to be on.
- Open Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords and create one. Call it “Alrighty”.
- In Alrighty, add an iCloud account and enter your iCloud address and the password Apple gave you.
Connect GmailSign in with Google
- In Alrighty, add a Gmail account and choose Sign in with Google.
- Your browser opens on Google’s own page. Sign in and allow Alrighty to read and send your mail.
- Come back to Alrighty. Your mail starts arriving straight away.
Alrighty never sees your Google password. If you’d rather not sign in through the browser, you can use an app password instead: turn on 2-Step Verification, then create one at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
Connect OutlookSign in with Microsoft
Works with Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365 addresses.
- In Alrighty, add an Outlook account and choose Sign in with Microsoft.
- Your browser opens on Microsoft’s own page. Sign in and allow Alrighty to read and send your mail.
- Come back to Alrighty. Your mail starts arriving straight away.
Search your mailTwo ways at once
Type words, and Alrighty finds messages that contain them. Ask a question, and it finds the message that answers it: “when is my flight” brings up the airline’s confirmation. Both kinds of match come back in one list.
"quarterly report"matches the exact phrase.from:maya,to:me@icloud.comandsubject:invoicenarrow by sender, recipient or subject.- Words match by their beginning, so “recei” finds “receipt”.
Search covers each account’s newest 50,000 messages outside Trash, Junk and Drafts. While a new account is still being indexed, its server’s own search fills in older mail.
